The Department of Urology regularly gets students from all over the world for doing their electives. In the past, these have included medical, nursing and health management students from England, France, Germany and Sweden.

Interested students are adviced to write to us in advance to make sure that they can get their placements to avoid disappointments. We normally only take a maximum of 2 to 3 student at any given time.

Sri Ramachandra University Campus:

The 200 acres campus has Medical, Dental, Nursing, Allied health Science, Physiotherapy and Health management colleges. About 2000 students and doctors stay within the campus hence it is fully self sufficient. It has many restaurants, shops, Banks, post-office, cyber-cafes and an ATM machine. Electricity and water are available 24 hours. It also has an excellent centrally air-conditioned library with latest books and journals. The campus has excellent sports facilities that includes a Basketball court, Cricket grounds, Tennis courts and a well equipped gymnasium.

The campus is well maintained and has a lot of greenery. Porur town is within a kilometer. A small lake is next to the hospital. The main city center is about 12 Kms from the campus. It is very well linked with transport that is available almost round the clock.

Accommodation :

This is available within the sprawling 200 acres campus of the hospital. Both single and shared accommodation is available. Additional charges will have to be made if you require accommodation during your stay.

Period of Elective: usually we advice you to spend a minimum of two and a maximum of four weeks in urology. If you are wanting to do an elective in another department also we advice you to combine Urology with either Casualty or general Surgery if necessary.

What are you expected to learn during your elective period ? :

Besides learning how to take history and examining the patients,  you will also learn catheterization techniques, Urodynamic evaluation procedure, Assisting during surgery, Learning and observing Endoscopic procedures, kidney transplant surgery, giving injections, setting up and administering intra-venous fluids, doing dressings, how to read X-rays, Learning how to perform ultra-sound scans and ESWL procedures. The department emphasis the importance of imparting practical training.
